The City arm of BSN was formed in 2008 to focus on the needs of, and issues affecting, Black commercial lawyers (both in-house and in private practice) practising in and around the City of London and Canary Wharf.

Through targeted networking opportunities, skills development programmes, mentoring schemes, and thought-leadership events, BSN City addresses the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Black lawyers in the commercial sector.  We work to amplify their voices, support career advancement, and foster a more inclusive legal landscape at the heart of the legal sector.

Re-established in 2016, BSN North serves the vibrant local areas of northern England.  The BSN North Committee is primarily based out of Manchester, but attracts and works with talented lawyers and students from across the region.

Driven by BSN’s mission to champion our Members, BSN North is at the heart of a powerful network spanning the area, working with Manchester Law Society, the region’s top law firms, and leading barristers’ chambers.


We don’t just connect — BSN North collaborates, innovates, and opens doors for our Members. By working closely with the region’s universities, we’re also building a strong pipeline of opportunity, ensuring emerging talent can step confidently into the legal profession and make their mark.

Grassroots

Created with the specific aim of helping aspiring solicitors to make the jump from academia to the profession, Grassroots is BSN’s dedicated group to provide a wealth of knowledge and connections for the next generation of lawyers.

Each academic year we take on a large group of talented students from across the country and provide them with focused skills-based workshops to enhance their employability opportunities.

With the generous support of our Corporate Members, the Grassroots Programme offers fantastic opportunities for students to get first-hand experience of life as a solicitor while also learning vital new skills, such as AI and psychometric assessment guidance.

Creating Pathways is an innovative mentoring programme from our BSN City group, designed to empower experienced solicitors to accelerate their career progression.


Through tailored coaching, strategic guidance, and connections with senior leaders in the profession, the scheme equips participants with the insight, skills, and networks they need to reach their next career milestone.
